Two days of consultations among the foreign ministers of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan began yesterday in Islamabad, turning the Pakistani capital into the hub of the most coordinated regional diplomatic effort yet to push the US and Iran toward direct talks.
If current contacts hold, talks between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi could take place within days, potentially in Pakistan. But the weapons did not stop while the diplomats talked.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf called the announcement of talks a cover for US military action, writing: "The enemy publicly signals negotiations while secretly planning a ground invasion." He added: "Our forces are ready for any US ground troops. We will never accept humiliation."
📍 MILITARY SITUATION
🎯 Tehran under missiles — night of March 29-30
Late Sunday evening, the Israeli military stated that over the past 24 hours its fighter jets had dropped more than 120 munitions over Tehran, targeting sites used for weapons research, development and production.
Two people were killed and five wounded in an attack on a residential area near the city of Shaft. Iranian agencies reported strikes also hit the Saadat Abad neighbourhood in northern Tehran and another residential area in the west of the capital.

🛳️ USS Tripoli on station — Amphibious Marines in position
The US Marine Corps has been deployed to the Middle East as the war enters its fifth week. Around 3,500 additional troops arrived aboard the USS Tripoli with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, accompanied by transport and strike fighter aircraft, as well as amphibious tactical assets.
The Pentagon is preparing for weeks of limited ground operations in Iran, potentially including raids on Kharg Island and coastal sites near the Strait of Hormuz.

🇾🇪 Houthis enter the war — second naval front

The Houthis' entry into the war could further damage global shipping if the group were to again target vessels in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, through which 12% of world trade normally passes.
🇸🇦 Prince Sultan Air Base hit twice
Between Friday and Saturday, Iran attacked Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia for the second time in a week. Across both attacks, at least 29 American soldiers were injured, five seriously. One of the aircraft hit was reportedly an E-3 Sentry, used for airborne control and early warning against missile and UAV launches.
🇧🇭 Bahrain and Gulf under attack
On March 28, 20 missiles and 23 UAVs directed toward Bahrain were intercepted, with damage to Bapco energy facilities. The IRGC declared it had targeted the ALBA plant in Bahrain with missiles and UAVs. Authorities battled a massive blaze at Kuwait International Airport after a drone attack hit fuel tanks.
🇷🇺 Russia — warning on nuclear plants
Russia warned Israel and the United States against carrying out strikes on nuclear power plants. Ukrainian President Zelensky claimed Russia had provided Iran with updated satellite imagery of Prince Sultan Air Base ahead of the second Iranian attack on the facility.

KHARG ISLAND: IRAN FORTIFIES, US DECIDES
This is the real strategic node of the day. Iran has been laying traps and moving additional military personnel and air defenses to Kharg Island in preparation for a possible US operation to seize it — the island handling roughly 90% of Iran's crude exports — as leverage to force Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran has already rejected the US 15-point proposal and submitted its own five-point counter-proposal demanding reparations and recognition of its sovereignty over the waterway.

Trump declared Sunday that Iran has agreed to "most of" the 15-point list transmitted via Pakistan. At the same time the Pentagon is planning ground operations. The message is double-tracked.

A senior Iranian security official told CNN that Tehran will determine when the war ends, signaling Iran is prepared to sustain offensive operations for an extended period — pushing back on US assessments that the conflict could be wrapped up within weeks.

Israel declared it is prepared for a "multi-front war." A source briefed on Israel's thinking told reporters that Israel is concerned about how the US handles potential negotiations with Iran, and that Israeli influence over those talks will be very limited.

According to The Times, the UK is expected to send the amphibious vessel RFA Lyme Bay to assist in reopening the Strait of Hormuz, equipped with a drone fleet for naval mine clearance.

With oil around $110 per barrel, economic models project for the eurozone approximately 1 additional percentage point of annual inflation and 0.6% of GDP lost.
